Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a common condition I see in my practice and hear about online.  I talked about how to help yourself heal from this naturally in episode 10 of The Ali Damron Show.

Symptoms:

  • Classically  cysts on ovaries
  • Irregular periods or no periods (amenorrhea)
  • Infertilty
  • Weight gain
  • Acne
  • Insulin resistance
  • Increased testosterone levels

  • Baldness or thinning hair

Lifestyle Factors to Help:

  • Eat foods low on the glycemic index and low in sugar
  • Eliminate toxin exposure (artificial sweeteners, pesticides, preservatives, etc.)
  • Eat anti-inflammatory foods
    • Grass fed/pasture raised meat
    • Wild salmon (fish)
    • Nuts and seeds such as chia, hemp, flax, almond and walnuts
    • Unrefined oils/fats – coconut oil, olive oil and avocado
    • Turmeric
  • Support the adrenal glands by removing:
    • Alcohol and caffeine in high amounts
    • Most sources of sugar and sweeteners such as high fructose corn syrup, refined carbohydrates and packaged sweet products)
    • Processed foods
    • Hydrogenated and refined vegetable oils (soybean and canola)
    • Conventional dairy and gluten.
  • Acupuncture
  • Reduce stress
  • Take adaptogenic herbs to help promote hormone balance and protect from cortisol, increase thyroid function, decrease cholesterol, reduce anxiety and depression and support against PCOS symptoms.
  • Get enough sleep
  • Exercise
