Rachel Benight on Orthorexia and The Pressure To Eat Perfectly

In this week’s episode on The Ali Damron Show, I interviewed Rachel Benight, a dietician.  We talked about how she felt the pressure to hold herself to an exceptionally high standard to eat perfectly and live a perfect healthy lifestyle so she could show her patients how as well.

What she realized was that it was creating an environment for her where she felt anxious all the time around food because she had cut out so many food groups.

After much introspection, she realized that her own healthy living lifestyle was actually detrimental to herself and she needed to find another way.  In this episode, we talk about her journey from this to finding a life where she feels calm and confident around food.

I also shared my own version of this story as a personal trainer and acupuncturist and could relate to her on several levels.

We talked about how she treats her own patients now without adding to their anxiety about food and healthy living but still gets them exceptional, balanced results by working with her.
