David’s 30th Birthday Surprise

So this past weekend David turned the big 3-0.  My family and I had been planning a birthday surprise for him since July and it’s been fun.  He thought we were going to have a nice, low-key weekend in Dillon, CO (which is up in the Rocky Mountains).  He was really excited about it and I just let him think that’s what we were doing.

I had other plans – my sister, Dave and my mom were coming to town and we were going to a nice dinner and then to the Bronco’s game on Sunday.  We bought the tickets in July not knowing what a highly anticipated game it actually was!  This made it even more exciting because he really wanted to watch the game.

I made Aiden a t-shirt with iron on letters that said “Happy Birthday Dad” so he could be included in the party fun too!

I made him a three layered funfetti cake (because it’s his favorite) with strawberry whipped cream in between the layers and a white buttercream frosting.  I have taken a liking lately for cake decorating.  I’ve only made two cakes like this in my life, but it’s fun nonetheless.

DSC01227 We went out to dinner at Linger in Denver on Saturday night, which I’ll be doing a review of soon because it’s so wonderful!  The food is great and the service is even better.

The boys all got hot alcoholic ciders that were served in random coffee cups!

DSC01141 On Sunday, we went to Southern Hospitality downtown to get some drinks and appetizers before the Broncos game and watched them kick the Chiefs butt!  (Sorry to all you Chiefs fans out there).

All in all it was one of the best weekends I’ve had for a long time.  I got some much needed family and adult time and finally made it to my first NFL game. I think David had a good time rolling in his 30’s!

Question:

What has been your favorite birthday?

  1. Go Broncos!! I bet going to the game was totally the cherry on his B-day. Awesome that you kept it a surprise too. I am terrible at keeping secrets. Happy Birthday to David!

You did a great job on the cake. Layers totally intimidate me. (And, I’m making a tiny three layer smash cake for Aria soon…eee)

Aiden is making some seriously cute faces in those pics. Particularly #2.
