Well it’s happened. I caught my first dreaded cold in 1 1/2 years. I escaped the entire season last year, but I guess my luck ran out. I woke up yesterday with a sore throat, congested and a runny nose. I’ve been taking Zicam every 3 hours, drinking all kinds of teas, lysol-ing my house like a mad woman and melding eucalyptus essential oil on the stove all day in the hopes the rest of my family stays healthy. I don’t think this is going to be a bad one thankfully because I nipped it in the bud with the Zicam.
I’m obviously wanting comfort food because that’s what this week’s favorites are all about!
Halloween Puppy Chow. Who doesn’t like puppy chow?! I usually make it near Christmastime, but Halloween is just as good.
Crockpot Chicken Enchilada Soup. The weather turned colder (and is supposed to snow today) and therefore my crockpot comes out. I love slow cooking soups and stews all day in the winter. This one looks pretty darn yummy. It’s on the menu for the weekend.
Favorite Illness Prevention/Treatment. I’m sure most of you know the power of elderberry for the treatment of colds and flus. People, this is where it’s at in natural medicine! It’s higher in vitamin C than oranges, is high in Vitamin A, has anti-inflammatory properties, has good quantities of the antioxidant quercitin, and also possesses antiviral properties to treat colds and flus. The other ingredients in this syrup also help get rid of nasty viruses or even prevent them. Take this once per day to prevent sickness or every 2-3 hours when symptoms strike. I should have already made this for the year since I’m sick, but it’ll be in my cupboard for the next time.
Pumpkin Cake Doughnuts. These little gems look delicious and they are healthier than your average bakery doughnut that has been sitting there all day. They are made with all whole ingredients and no refined sugar (unless you add sprinkles)!
Pumpkin Oatmeal Cream Pies. In case you can’t tell, I’m still on my pumpkin baking kick. Remember Little Debbie oatmeal pies from when you were little? Those used to find a place in my lunch box nearly everyday for at least 10 years! I loved those things until I realized that they were less than healthy and I needed to stop. Insert DIY oatmeal cream pies with good ingredients! In case you have a craving, use this recipe instead of Little Debbie!
Favorite Quote. One last dose of inspiration for the weekend. I’m really trying to ease my worrying problem and remembering this helps!
Well I hope you all have a nice weekend. We have no plans this weekend and we like it that way every once in a while. Next week, I’m going to my mom’s house for a few days, so I guess we’ll get ready for that and recover from being sick!
