Chocolate Chip Walnut Banana Bread

Happy Hump Day!  Have you seen the Geico hump day commercial?  I might never think of hump day without envisioning it like they say it on the commercial again.

Just in case you haven’t seen it, here it is.

I’ve been going on a baking spree lately and I made some banana bread that was gone that day in our house!  There is something about fall that makes me want to bake.  I usually do pumpkin things, but we had a whole bunch of bananas that were way too ripe to eat, so this is where they went. While I didn’t create, the recipe, I did add some of my own touches that you can do too, such as adding chocolate chips and walnuts.


Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Recipe adapted from All Recipes


2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup butter

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 beaten eggs

2 1/3 cups mashed bananas

Additional mix-ins: Walnuts, almonds, chocolate chips, whatever you can think of and how ever much you desire!


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan.

2. In a bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt.  In a separate mixing bowl, combine butter and brown sugar.  Stir in the eggs and bananas until blended.  Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir.  Stir in your add-ins (if you chose to add anything). Pour batter into the loaf pan.

3.  Bake for 60-65 minutes or until a toothpick poked into the center comes out clean.  Let bread cool and then enjoy!


IMG_1916 This bread was moist and perfectly banana-y.  I must admit it was gone rather fast, so it didn’t have a chance to dry out.
