Chocolate Oatmeal Smoothie

I completely forgot about this little video I was in a couple weeks ago. I was at work one morning and Fox 10 News needed to talk to a personal trainer, so I agreed. We talked about how some people get a little bit ambitious about their new years resolutions in health and fitness and can take them too far for themselves and their current fitness levels. I’m a huge proponent on getting into the gym, getting that heart rate up there and pushing yourself into a killer workout, but I also think that people need to assess their current fitness level and realize that maybe they need to take it a little bit slower at first to reacquaint their bodies with exercise.

Taking Your Resolutions Too Seriously Can Get You Hurt:

In other news… I found a new smoothie recipe to try on Pinterest the other day and recreated it tonight so it would be ready bright and early for work in the morning.  The recipe I made was modified slightly.

Chocolate Oatmeal Smoothie

1 serving – Estimated 300 calories

1/8 c. Oats

1 c. Almond Milk

1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder

1 Tbsp. Unsweetened Cocoa

1 Tbsp. Peanut Butter

Handful of Spinach

Pinch of Chia Seeds

Pinch of Xanthum Gum (for thickening) – Not really needed… it was plenty thick!

Now… if you’re one of those people that thinks the idea of spinach in a smoothie is weird or looks unappetizing, please do me a favor and try it.  You absolutely cannot taste it.  There are plenty of other people that back me up, like here, here, and here.  This is such an easy and excellent way to sneak in some great nutrients first thing in the morning!
